Requiem For Hillary

Maybe The Time For The White House Has Passed For Hillary

Oh Hillary, I loved you well. I am here to tell you that I am a middle aged Texas Democrat, andI threw my support behind Hillary Clinton in the primaries. I was bitter when she lost the primary, but being a good Democrat, I realized that Obama was the future, and like me, Clinton came from the past.

Baby Boomers Did Well!

We had a good run. We did. I am, perhaps, too old to be idealistic, but not so old I cannot remember idealism. We are the children on the 60’s, and the early 70s. We did some good, made some mistakes, and earned our legacy. But I am reminded of the story of Moses, leading the children of Israel for 40 years, enough time for the odler generation to die off, and the next generation, who had not been slaves - at least as adults, take positions of leaderships.

Now I just read a post that some of the Clinton’s business dealings did not live up to the idealism we thought we still had. Poor working conditions in an ethonal company the Clinton’s invested in and a Chinese internet company who wanted to help the government find Tibetan protesters come to mind. Oh, Bill and Hillary, you are not worse than the rest of us, and perhaps, better than most.

But maybe it is time for us to step back and support the future, to admit that in our middle age we should be here to remind our children, but not to lead them. I love and respect Hillary Clinton, and the holes she punched in all sorts of glass ceilings, and the fighter she is. But maybe we should just relax, remind the new kids of the mistakes we made, and what we did right, and let them learn from us.

OK Kids, Go On and Change The World!

I think we did a good job, and when the Obama kids realize that they will not reach our age without mistakes, and would not be the great people they are without us to guide them, our job will be complete. So, kids, we are ready for change, and we aren’t gone yet! But we trust you too, So go and and be better than we are. We will be glad to see it.

Dental Plans For Retirement

Well, its that time of year again, and qualified individuals are learning about all of the latest and greatest retirement health plans. These come in several flavors like different Medicare Supplement levels, and of course, the many Medicare Advantage plans which can be PFFS, HMO health plans, or PPO health plans. We leave it to other sites to explain which is the best HMO or PPO, but what we want to do now is complain about something else!

Dental Care After Retirement?

You know, improved dental care during our whole lives means that many of us are not toothless old hags at all! We still need to care for our teeth, or our dentures, or our crowns, or whatever. What I do see, is that most of the retirement health plans lack dental care, and the few that have any, have very limited coverage.

And yet, retirement age is when many of us really start needing more expensive services to preserve the pearly whites. Crowns and dentures are expensive dental services for everybody, costing in the thousands, and we really need some way to plan for these expenses. Of course, thisproblem of dental benefits is not limited to retirement, and I think this post on dental plans for unemployment is also helpful to retired people! Note: The last statistic I saw couted about 100 million people who lacked dental benefits in the US, which is twice the number who lacked health benefits. (Note: unemployment health plans really do not apply to retired people as much)

So low cost dental discount plans can provide some relief, granting access to a network of dentists who are willing to abide by the cost cutting measures of a major network in exchange for a steady stream of clients, much like the advantages of an HMO. Learn More about how these networks work: Low Cost Dental Programs.

Extreme Sports After 50 — Meet the Uni-Geezer!

Lots of people wonder about sports and exercise after 50. It is common for people to visit us here, wondering what exercises are safe to do past their 50th birthday. They are concerned about overtaxing their heart or straining their muscles.

But obviously the search for a safe workout is not why the Unigeezer found us!  He is a 52 year old who engages in the extreme, dangerous sports of mountain unicycling. You have heard of mountain biking, right? Well, this is like that but with only one wheel.

Apparently this sport is known as MUNI for Mountain UNIcycling, and as you browse his website, you may wonder why a 30 year old would try it. But I have to give the Unigezzer credit, because he certainly doesn’t let his half century plus age slow him down phyiscially or mentally. I think that people like him serve as an inspiration and motivation for all of us. I know that after I visited Unigeezer - Mountain Unicyling After 50,  I was so interested in the photos and videos of mountain unicycling that I ran out of excuses, and just had to jump on my 2 wheeler. Don’t worry, I just cruised around the neighborhood.

Who knows? Some of my readers may be bored with the health club or stationary bike. It may be time to pick up a new hobby. Meet Terry Peterson, and learn about mountain uni-biking here: Unigeezer

We are seeing a dip in fuel prices, but nobody knows how long it will last. Notice I say, how long, and not “if” it will last, because I’m pretty sure this is a temporary dip. I do not have a crystal ball though, and am no expert on economics, so I hope my hunch is wrong! However, we have other reasons for using clean and renewable energy sources beyond price. We want a clean environment, and hopefully our generation can leave a green planet for our kids and grandkids. I mean, c’mon, we were the generation who was so hard on our own parents and grandparents for pollution, and now look at us!

DIY WIND AND SOLAR POWER

Well, here’s a project for you! Make a homemade free electricity system with a do it yourself solar or wind power system! The system includes step by step written and video instructions, and it also gives you a project you can complete with parts from your hardware store, and for less than $200! Save money, and set a good example for the next generation.
