We participate in a lot of online boards, but these days, we feel a little old in some of them. As part of our effort to make this a true over 50 online community, we have added a new website to our network. This is a place where everybody can register and contribute to the network. You can read and chat about lots of topics that are important to those of us in midlife and retirement years.

Making New Friends Over 50

I think it gets a little harder to meet new people as we get older. I know that when I was younger, I was involved in a lot more activities with people who were open to connecting on different levels. Then, when my kids were younger, I tended to meet the parents of their friends. But now, as my kids go off on their own a lot more, I tend to be stuck in a rut where I never meet anybody new.

Where Have You Met Friends in The Past?

The one good thing about being in our second half century is that we have a lot of experience to fall back on. So consider your friendships. How did you meet the people who have been important to you in the past? I think one of the best ways to connect with people is to find others who have common interests. So maybe the first thing to do is to engage yourself in some activities you enjoy.

In some ways it can be a lot harder to get back on the dating scene after 50. A lot of us feel silly doing the things we did when we were 25 to attract potential mates. Over 50 Blogs and Over 50 Chat Online

I thought it was kind of interested to go through the Over 50 Blogs on Senior Friend Finder, just to see the variety of people that were my age – and older – who are out there looking for friends and romance! I found everything from sweet musings that my teenaged daughter would think were corny to a long haired guy who must have left his soul back in 1968 (not always a bad thing, in my humble opinion).

While I was surfing around the net I found an fantastic advice-column style blog on Over 40 Dating that looks pretty active. She calls Lessons, stories and insites for Yummy Midlife Dating. I was particulary interested in an article on Relationship Recovery.

Many people I meet, who find themselves single in midlife, had long relationships – even marriages – before they found themselves on their own. Dating can seem like something that young people do, something from another generation. Does anybody have any insight on getting back into the swing of being single again, or even if that’s something that should be rushed at all!

I posted about an article I found on Relationship Recovery which seems to be a big topic with midlife people who have found themselves single after long relationships or marriages. Some of these people have been married for decades, and it can seem like dating is something that belonged to another life.

I am sure that getting back into dating can seem as clumsy as it did when we were adolescents, only now we don’t have the advantage of being young! I also wonder if people should rush relationships.

When we were younger, we probably thought that people our age did not think about dates and romance.
