Meet New People Over 50

Meet New People Over 50

Making New Friends Over 50

I think it gets a little harder to meet new people as we get older. I know that when I was younger, I was involved in a lot more activities with people who were open to connecting on different levels. Then, when my kids were younger, I tended to meet the parents of their friends. But now, as my kids go off on their own a lot more, I tend to be stuck in a rut where I never meet anybody new.

Where Have You Met Friends in The Past?

The one good thing about being in our second half century is that we have a lot of experience to fall back on. So consider your friendships. How did you meet the people who have been important to you in the past? I think one of the best ways to connect with people is to find others who have common interests. So maybe the first thing to do is to engage yourself in some activities you enjoy.

Prime Time Health By Dr. William Sears

Prime Time Health By Dr. William Sears

Healthy Anti Aging Made Simple

I was lucky enough to get a copy of Prime Time Health. I have to admit that when I first pulled this thick book out of the mailbox, I groaned a little. Oh no, I thought, not another really big book to review when I have so many projects going on at the same time. But I sat down on a lazy Sunday morning with a cup of coffee and this book, and I surprised myself because I read it for hours. (Don’t worry, the book says moderate coffee drinking is fine as long as we take in enough calcium!)

Summary of Prime Time Health By Dr. William Sears (MD) and Martha Sears (RN)

I do not really believe that I read anything about what we should do to prevent medical problems in middle age and beyond that I hadn’t already come accross from previous research on anti aging and natural health. But this particular book explains what we should do, and how we should do it in a simple and concrete way that I had never seen before. In addition, Prime Time Health really explains why we should make our health a hobby in a clear way I had never understood before!

Texting Help for Dummies (Over 50)!

Texting Help for Dummies (Over 50)!

Texting For Adults Who Grew Up Talking on Phones!

When you were a kid, were phones things that plugged into the wall, and were used for talking on? Did a mobile communicator seem like something from a Star Trek Episode or a Dick Tracy cartoon strip? Yeah, me too. But now if I want to communicate with my kids, it seems like I have to be able to read the small text that appears on my phone. And I not only have to read it, I have to respond it it!

I don’t have a fancy phone with a typewriter (lol) keyboard, but I only have a normal phone keypad. The phones with the keyboards are too large, and I’ve gotten used to the convenience of a small flip phone I can slide into a pocket in my purse. Besides, I keep using up my own credits to get my kids fancier phones, and I seem to be the last in line for upgrades.

CN U RD THS?

But if I want to communicate with the younger generation, I have to text or get left out of the loop these days. Here are some of my best tips for texting.

Over 50 Dating – Rethinking Mature Dating

Over 50 Dating – Rethinking Mature Dating

Is it Harder to Date After 50?

WaterfallIn some ways it can be a lot harder to get back on the dating scene after 50. A lot of us feel silly doing the things we did when we were 25 to attract potential mates. The club scene seems sort of alien to us now. And some of us, it is true, do not feel as confident about our appearance as we did.

Now is the time to approach dating the way we should have in the first place!

Over 50 Online Dating

When we were young adults we did not have online dating services. Now a large percentage of couples actually meet this way, and it is very popular with mature adults! Online services allow you to meet and date on your terms.

Online Dating for Mature Singles

You can find general dating sites like Eharmony with free online dating personality tests.  Many people feel like this filter really helps them zero in on people like them! Another popular service, Senior Friend Finder, actually has chat and blogs so people can get to know each other online before they choose to take the next step of meeting in person. We also have a great interest in this online over 50 dating site because you can search for others who fit in with your likes and dislikes right off the bat!

Over 50 Jokes – Laugh About Midlife!

Over 50 Jokes – Laugh About Midlife!

Is There Anything Funny About Being Over 50?

Well, we cannot do much about our birthdate, but laughter is good for us anyway. So it is time to recycle some boomer jokes! These may not make you laugh out loud, but hopefully you will smile. Actually, for many of us, middle age is a great tme of life. So don’t let these get you down. They are just jokes!

When You’re Over 50…

You have a party and your neighbors do not complain because they don’t even know it.
You don’t worry about secrets because your friends don’t remember them either.
You can live without sex, but not without your glasses.

Advantage of Being Over 50….

The only way to relieve the frustration of being fifty-something is to constantly seek new ways of irritating the young. Fortunately in old age, you develop the ability to do this naturally in every single thing you do or say. (If you still have teen or young adult kids, you’ll get this one.)

Over the Hill?
•I much prefer being over the hill to being under it.
- Bruce Lansky
•”Don’t worry about senility,” my grandfather used to say. “When it hits you, you won’t know it.”
-Bill Cosby
•The cardiologist’s diet:
if it tastes good, spit it out.
- Paulina Borsook

Baby Boomers Fiction – Underlying Notes by Eva Pasco

Baby Boomers Fiction – Underlying Notes by Eva Pasco

Read any Good Books Lately?

Front_girl smallI have purchased and enjoyed Underlying Notes by Eva Pasco. Note: you can follow the link in the previous sentence to enjoy the first 3 chapters and order the book for yourself. It is a gripping story about an everywoman who reinvents herself at an age when many of us are just trying to settle in.

We are thrilled and quite flattered to include some words from the author too! The essay below was written for those of us in the over 50 age group who are sentimental about Christmas seasons of the past.

The Ghosts of Christmases Past

Kindred over-fifty readers, we’re not “over the hill,” but perched on its summit affording our mind’s eye a panoramic purview of vestiges from the past: black and white TV, canned sit-com laughter, drugstores with soda fountains, cobblers, milkmen, two-laned highways, saddle shoes and knee socks, film reels, back-to-back double features at the movie theater…Never one to personally embrace Norman Rockwell’s brush stroked vision of Americans on canvas, this holiday season, more so than any other, I find myself in need of insulation from the stark reality that plays out day to day as though we are impoverished Cratchits– our garments picked threadbare from the exorbitant cost of living and repercussions from the recession.  The H1N1 pandemic and increasing incidents of violence making headline news send me scrambling to the crest of the hill, seeking solace and sanctuary from ghosts of Christmases past hovering over earth’s blanket of freshly fallen snow, untrodden and unsodden by folly.

Does Web Activity Help Our Brains?

Does Web Activity Help Our Brains?

OK, you may think that surfing the web is just a big waste of time. Ok, there is no doubt that it is a great way to divert our attention from other matters, and sometimes, it can even be a little addictive. But you can realize a lot of benefits from web surving, so you may not actually be wasting time playing Bejeweled for the 100th time today after all.

The Internet as a Brain Booster!

And in fact, the study showed that more experienced web users got more benefits than beginners. They meaured brain activity and blood flow to key brain centers. It is great to know that.
Of course, surfing the internet can have a lot of other benefits for middle aged people and senior citizens. Online social sites help older people stay in touch with family and old classmates, and can help them make new friends too. Some older people have supplemented their income with online auctions, online freelance work, and blogs. In all, the internet revolution has been a big boost for older people, especially those who cannot get around like they used to.

Find a Cheap Cruise to Brag About

Find a Cheap Cruise to Brag About

Who Doesn’t Love to Cruise?

If there is one thing that the over 50 set loves to crow about, it is about cruise experiences. Who doesn’t like the idea of embarking on an exciting adventure, and also getting treated like a king or queen while doing it? Cruises are popular for vacations, but they can be expensive if you have a tight budget. Howevr, we have some tips so you can find cheap cruise deals.

Compare the price of a Cruise vs. a Hotel Vacation

When you really consider the cost of a normal vacation which must include a hotel, meals, and entertainment, a cruise can actually stand alone as a good value. If you spend $150 night for a hotel room, and $100 a day for food, plus another $100 for show tickets, you have already started to stack up some bills.

The price of a cruise, where your cabin, meals, and some entertainent comes with the package, may not look so steep now.
