Free Power At Home

OK, the title is a bit misleading because there will be some investment in order to actually construct the home energy systems. But reports are telling us that small systems can be constructed from common materials for $100 – $300. This seems like a reasonable amount of money to start with.

Is generating free energy at home something out of a futuristic movie, like the famous Mr. Fusion? Well, we do not know where to get plans for a home fusion generator, but we do know that there is a growing trend, all over the word, for peope to supplement their power company energy supply with home energy generation. And these are not all expensive systems people purchase, but much cheaper versions that people build themself.

Advantages of Home Power Systems

• Use renewable and clean energy sources to help improve our environment
• Save money by using less power from the power company
• Some even generate surplus power which the power company will buy!

Solar Power – You have probably heard, or maybe even seen, of people laying out solar panels. They are actually getting fairly common as ways to recharge batteries, heat swimming pools, and heat household water supplies. You can actually find plans for building your own electric power system from solar cells (you can buy the on EBay now). The first prototype would be enough to work some appliances, and then people tend to move on from there if they like the concept.  To provide a lot of power, you would need some room to lay out the solar cells in a sunny place, of course!

Wind Power – The big wind farms, that are used my power companies, have been all over the news. This is a clean and renewable energy source. You would obviously need some room for your own windmills, and they would have to get a good breeze.

Magnet Power?

Yes, there is another solution that is getting some interest, but has not been talked about as much as solar or wind power. This is electromagnetic power. The virtue of these systems is that they do not require a lot of space, and they do not depend on the sun or the wind!

Who is Robert Skimin? Taken from the Robert Skimin website, which we urge you to visit,  his own life has been an American adventure. He enlisted in the army at the age of 18, and then soon became the 4th youngest officer. He saw battle as a paratrooper, artillery officer, and even an army aviator. He became the first army pilot to wear the famed green beret. After this, he fought enough battle with alcoholism. He defeated this disease many years ago, and then went on to battle cancer. Meanwhile, Robert Skimin has developed a reputation as an author, illlustrator, and playwrite.

All of his experiences led up to the novel  Ulysses. President Grant also battled the bottle. He finally passed away of cancer. Mr. Skimin’s own experiences with the military, alcoholism, and cancer helped him right a very realistic biographical novel that arrived on the scene to fantastic reviews.

Danny Drumm’s Heroes

This series of children’s books covers US history through the words of a civil war drummer boy named Danny Drumm.  The series starts out by introducing young readers to drummer boys. Then it traces our American history from the beginning up to the present time. It has already tested very well with elementary school children, though the rest of the family will enjoy it too!

Am I the only one who gets spammy cell phone calls and text messages? I’m sure lots of people get them, and most of the time, find them annoying. If is fine to be contacted by a business I have a relationship with, but I seldom appreciate cold calls. Furthermore, do you know those calls and text message could incur a charge? You may have seen some of this spread around in an email before. I know I get it frequently enough that others must find it funny. We did not seem to be as protected when we were kids. But keep in mind these are only meant as a joke. Simple things like seat belts and vacines do save lives. If we survived without them, we may have just been lucky.

When we were kids…..

• We survived pregnancies from mothers who smoked, drank, took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, and died their hair.
• We were put on our tummies as babies in beds covered with lead based paint. We rode on our mother’s lap in the car, without benefit of a baby seat.
• We had never heard of bicycle helmets, or if we did, we thought that was only for professional racers.
• We shared drinks from soda cans, and we drank from the garden hose.
• We would play out side all day in the summer, from noon until supper. We had no cell phones. As long as we got back by dinner, nobody cared.
• We did break bones sometimes, but nobody thought of starting a lawsuit.
• We were a little scared of our parents, because you know, they could spank us. We never thought we could call the police or CPS for protection from them.

Do I think it was better then? I think that in some cases, it was not better. I also think sometimes we were just very lucky or blessed. But I have read an article that mentioned that kids who grow up in homes that are not perfectly clean, or who play outside more, actually get sick more often. You do, after al, have to build up an immunity somewhere.

For most Baby Boomers, hitting the dating scene can be a little nerve
racking, if not a nail biting event.

The first thing to remember, dating is suppose to fun, exciting and
interesting.

Dating is all about finding chemistry and compatibility with someone else.

If you are a single Baby Boomer, it’s most likely the person you are meeting
is fairly new to the dating game in the second half of life as well, so
relax!

The conversation is probably the most important part of your first date.

First date conversation starters can be quite easy, IF you stay away from
those controversial “taboo” subjects, and play it safe! At least on your
first date.

Hot First Date Topics To AVOID

•Keep Sex Out Of The Conversation – I’m sure this one shouldn’t be too
hard to tackle. As most of you looking for a life time companion, wouldn’t
jump into bed after the first date.

•Religion & Politics – This hasn’t changed from the dating rules of 30
years ago. It wasn’t good then, and it certainly isn’t good now.

•Dollars & Cents Questions – Man or woman, you never want to come across
as a “gold digger”. Your intention should be, connecting with a compatible
person, not what they have.

•Never Ask Anyone’s Age – I know this isn’t a new revelation. Things
haven’t changed over the years. I myself never like to divulge my age.
Especially since many people think I look younger than I am.

Besides, does it really matter how old someone is? As long as two people are
compatible, what’s age … you’re right, it’s only a number.

Hot Topics For First Date Discussion

•Travel – This is always a safe bet. Ask your date where their favorite
travel destination is. Why they love it so much, where they stayed and where
is the next spot they are wanting to visit.

This question could end up being the conversation of the evening! Possibly
you’ll discover you both have a common love for travel.

•Ask About His/Her Family – This says a lot about a person. A person’s
character shines through with the words they use to talk about their family.

•Ask About Children – This topic I should have moved up to the number one
spot, as it’s very close to my heart.

I knew I didn’t want to be involved with a man that was still raising kids.
I was well passed the “rearing” of my kids, let alone someone else’s
children.

•Passions & Interests – This is a great first date conversation topic! You
can quickly find out if he/she has  interests other than watching the “boob
tube”(television) everyday.

If you are an outgoing person, you need to know this up front.

•Ask Open Ended Questions – If your date is a little on the shy side, it’s
easy for them to answer “yes” and “no” questions. Ask questions, that need
some type of response …. example: What do you like to do in your free
time?

There you have it! This doesn’t seem too difficult does it?

A few first date conversation starters you want to AVOID, and the safe ones
to enhance your chances of a successful date.

One of the biggest concerns that most of us have when we use the internet is about the secuirty of our personal information. We have all seen some big stories about how hackers and phishers have stolen billions of dollars.  In fact, experts estimate that hackers made off with almost half a billion dollars last year (2009) alone!  There is no way to prevent all online theft, but with some caution, we can reduce the risk quite a bit.

What is Phishing?

This is a funny term, and of course, it comes from Fishing. Think of the terms Fat and Phat.  It means those fake, but very real looking, emals that come from different businesses or banks. They may tell you that there is some type of problem with an account, and of course they will have a link you can click.  However, if you would just take a second to place your cursor over the link they want you to click, and then look at the status bar (bottom of your browser), you would see that the internet site is not the one they say it is at all!

See, the text of the link may not be the actual website that link will take you to. For instance, look at this link :

The real website is http://over50web.net – but I can make the link say anything I want! I am not a Phisher, but I could create a website that looked like your bank or favorite online store. Then I could send out emails with text that made you think it was a link to the real website. But the actual link would point to my fake website where I hoped to gather your personal information!

Tips To Avoid Hackers

Hacking is a bit different than phishing. Phishers hope to trick you into revealing your personal inforation on their own capture pages. Hackers just want to come in and steal it.

• Be very wary when logging in to any websites from a shared computer, like at the library, internet cafe, etc.
• Keep security software up to date on your own computer.
• Use wireless encryption on your own home network.
• Make sure you look at your bank statements regularly, and do not hesitate to question anything irregular that pops up.
• Use strong passwords with letters and numbers that others cannot guess.
• Log out after every session.

As I wrote above, it would be impossible to prevent every case of hacking or theft. But with some caution, you can greatly reduce the odds so you can enjoy the ease and convenience of online business.
