Making New Friends Over 50
I think it gets a little harder to meet new people as we get older. I know that when I was younger, I was involved in a lot more activities with people who were open to connecting on different levels. Then, when my kids were younger, I tended to meet the parents of their friends. But now, as my kids go off on their own a lot more, I tend to be stuck in a rut where I never meet anybody new.
Where Have You Met Friends in The Past?
The one good thing about being in our second half century is that we have a lot of experience to fall back on. So consider your friendships. How did you meet the people who have been important to you in the past? I think one of the best ways to connect with people is to find others who have common interests. So maybe the first thing to do is to engage yourself in some activities you enjoy.

This could be as simple as taking a class or attending a professional networking group. You could also volunteer for a local charity or house of worship. Take tennis lessons or join a bowling team. These activities will probably make your life better anyway, and they are great places to connect with new people!
Sometimes Old Friends Are The Best Friends
I have been connecting with a lot of old friends on social networking sites like Facebook.com. I have really been happy to rekindle some friendships with people that I hung with 20 years ago but lost touch with. They are still great people, and it really is easier to reconnect than to make new friends.
Even if you do not live in the same city as your old friends, it is great to communicate with them online. And in my case, some do live in my same metro area, so I have made plans to see them every so often. And with one old friend who moved away, we planned a wonderful summer get together in a city that was between our two cities.
