If you have been keeping up the same exercise routine since you were nineteen, then you probably do not need to read this post. However, if you are coming back to a fitness routine after having left it out of your day for a few years, and are now plucking some grey hair out of your head, you may want to proceed with caution.
You may want to get a physical if you haven’t been to the doctor for awhile. Make sure everything is ticking like it should.
Then take care to warm up. Everybody should warm up and stretch out before they exercise, but it is even more important to as we get older. When I was 21, I could leave class and go toss frisbees for a couple of hours without a thought. If I try that now, I will need a two hour soak in the tub afterwards. Even the mildest and most informal forms of exercise can work some muscles we’ve left alone for awhile.

Listen to your body. Don’t try to run off a stitch like you did when you were 10! If you feel light headed, nauseated, or anything abnormal, go back inside and cool off for goodness sake. Take extra care not to get dehydrated, wear a hat and sunscreen in the sun.
Look. You’ve made it this far. I applaud your efforts to stay fit, and they are very important now. But pamper yourself too.
