Are Your Working Harder for Good Skin Over 50?
Well most of us find that our skin is harder to keep up after 50. We may suffer from dry skin, or it may go the other way, and we find more blemished. If you are like me, you can have both problems on different parts of your body!A good moisture lotion can help a lot, and it certainly feels good to apply it. But most natural remedy experts believe that the problems showing on the outside reflect, in part, what is going on inside too. So go ahead and slap on the cream, but also consider these other tips for beautiful skin at any age. This does apply to both men and women.
Rev Up Your Digestion
I know that my own hardy digestion system is not as forgiving at 50 as it was at 30. It is odd too because I can still tolerate spicy food (thankfully!), but some common food, like potatos, seem to be giving me gas these days. But maybe it isn’t just the food, but a symptom of other problems.
- Skin problems can reflect a lack of good internal bacteria, constipation, or other problems. Make sure you eat plenty of fiber in your diet. Most of us have to work to get enough with today’s processed diets. Most us us only eat about 12 grams a day, but the RDA is 2 – 3 times that much!
- Drink lots of water so your body is not pulling water from your skins to keep up basic functions.

Make sure your body is moving stuff around faster, something it had an easier time doing when you were younger. Of course, exercise is good. But a massage or a nice shower can help too. A walk every day, or even a few minutes of stretching exercises, can really help!
Avoid Too Much Sugar
Sugar filled treats should be something you allow yourself once in awhile, but not a 3 times a day habit. Try to replace candy bars with apples. You’ll still have something sweet to eat, but will also be doing your body a favor in so many ways.
Eat Good Fats
Our bodies need fat to function. But scientists and natural remedy experts agree that some fats are better than others. Flax seed, walnut oil, cold water fish, or fish oil supplements are great ways to give your body some of the grease it needs to function properly. This should improve your overall skin tone too.
Look Good from the Inside Out!
Most of us think about changing our diets so we can fit into smaller clothers. But some changes can also impact the way the skin around your body appears. Positive changes on the outside start on the inside too!
