Hair Concerns as We Enter Midlife and Beyond
As we age, our hair changes. Grey hair seems to have a different texture than it did when we were younger. We may lose curls or waves, or ourE hair may become more frizzy. Both men and women may suffer hair loss. Men can go bald. Women can also lose quite a bit of hair, but usually female hair just gets thinner or finer. In addition, those of us who tend to color our hair a lot may also find our hair texture is different than when we did not get our color from a bottle. Either way, it is time to really evaluate our hairstyles to decide if that perfect cut that everybody loved at 30 still suits us.
Hair Color
I notice that a lot of women tend to like dramatic hair colors when they decide to turn to dye to cover up grey. They try out red or platinum blonde hair. But does this really suit them? It does work for some ladies whose natural skin color goes well with the new hue. But many women would really look a lot better, and younger, if they just tried to keep to the natural color they had before they went grey.
If you were a red head or blonde when you were 30, you probably can get away with it. But if your hair was dark brown, and you have the wrong skin tone, some shades might make you look worse instead of better. Sometimes it works, and many olive skinned and even African American people look great with lighter hair. If in doubt, go ask a beauty professional to evaluate your skin tone. Even if you intend to color your own hair to save money, maybe you should consider getting one professional job the first time so you can take advantage of their advice and experience.
Many people conclude that they look better and younger if they just try to duplicate their natural, youthful hair color instead of trying to rebirth themselves as red heads or blondes. Brunettes have fun too. And there is nothing wrong with grey hair either. Hey, we earned it! I think it is more about finding the hai r colors that look good with your skin tone and eye color, than it is about picking one particular color.
Thinning Hair
If you are losing hair, you may want a new cut. Layers help most of us make our hair look thicker and fuller. You may also want to pick the hair care products that will address this problem, and be sure you avoid some products that may aggravate it. Some people are sensitive to chemicals in common shampoos and conditioners, and they may actually speed up hair loss.
Balding Hair
Well, this advice will not go over well with most women, but many men are finding that they look better with a totally bald head than with a partially bald head. Shaving scalps has become quite fashionable with men, and no longer really suggest age. But thinning hair with male pattern baldness does suggest age.
HairStyles are Ageless
The best over 50 hair style for you really does not have anything to do with your age. I know one lovely company CFO who still wears her hair fairly long, let it go grey, and looks fantastic. Another professional woman in her late 50′s decided to go fo a platinum blonde, short and spiky look, and she looks great! I myself, find I look better and younger sticking to my natural light brown hair color because nature picked the color that looks the best with my eyes and skin. I would love to be a ginger or a blonde, but it really does not suit me.
One simple way to find out what would look best you would be to visit a wig store and have a fun day trying them on. Take a friend for a reality check too. That way you can get a sample of different hairstyles and colors. And if you fall in love with one wig, go ahead and buy it. Wigs are in!

Going gray is simply not an option for me. I wear my hair long, layered, voluminous, and highlighted blonde. This color not only suits me but camouflages any gray creeping in. There is a color suitable for
each of us.

Trying on wigs doesn’t really work unless your hair is the texture of the wig fibers. Baby-fine, limp, stick-straight, do-nothing-but-lay-there hair is NEVER used in wigs. OK – you can get a feel for colors, but looking for suitable styles in wigs is a waste of time.
Personally, I love the grey in my hair – I just hate my hair. Both parents had the same kind of hair, so I got a double genetic whammy. This is the kind of hair that not even grey changes the texture. My grey hair’s as limp as the dark blonde.
