Need Cheap Clothes?
Yahoo Shopping posted an interesting take on lookin’ good on a budget. If you wonder when you should buy cheap clothes, and when you should pay more, look at this. They offer suggestions for those clothes you should buy at your local discount chain, and those which you should spend more money on! Here are some of their ideas, with some of mine:
- T Shirts - Go Cheap! Go ahead and grab T shirts off the racks at the discount stores. They are worn close to the skin, and usually have to be washed after every wear. So, no matter if you spend $8.99 or $29.99, they are unlikely to last long. Personally, I like to pick up T shirts that mean something to me or ones I find really, really cute. But I have no problem buying them at a local Mart of Wal or Tourist Trap!
- Blue Jeans - Moderate. Of course, jeans were created for miners and cowboys, so the sturdy, cheap pair will probably last for years. However, more expensive ones can fit better and have a style that can be worth paying for.
- Bras - Go For Top Qualify. I had an aunt that told me that a good bra was the single most important piece of clothing a woman wore. The older I get, the truer that is. A good bra can make that cheap T shirt look great, but a crummy bra will ruin your most expensive formal dress.
- Classic Dressy Wear - That basic pair of black dress pants or little black dress will probably serve you for years, so you want to spend the extra money on these items, especially when you find the right cut and style for your body.
- Shoes - It Depends. Go ahead and splurge on that cheap pair of trendy, funky sandals, but if you need a pair of shoes to wear to work every day, jog in, or take for a vacation that involves a lot of walking, spend the extra money. Those shoes will probably stay with you for years.
- Trendy Stuff. Save. You know how it is. The lime green of a few years ago has been replaced by this sort of muted pink on the racks today. If you think you will only wear the item for a season, the discount item will serve as well as the more expensive one.
