We are right smack in the middle of that season between Thanksgiving and New Years where parties are scheduled and the temptation to overeat is everywhere. I thought I’d post one of my own tips for keeping my blood sugar level and avoiding evening snacks (which is my personal weakness).  I make a very natural smoothie which has all the goodies, including dairy and fiber which seem to turn the trick to keep me from gaining weight. If I sip one in the evening it keeps me from eating other things I should stay away from, and sometimes I use one in the morning to replace breakfast, and it gives me a high energy start to my day!

Weight Control Smoothie!

You need a blender. Also 1 cup skim milk (or soy milk). 1/3 cup yogurt (plan or flavored), 1 packet stevia sweetener (optional), 2 pieces of cut-up fruit (I usually use a banana for 1, and maybe a pear or apple for the other), 1/2 cup ice, cinammon, and my personal favorite: a dash of vanilla (Optional, but it makes the drink for me!). I also add a teaspoon of flax seeds for some extra fiber kick.

Just toss it all in the blender, making sure you have enough liquid (skim milk) so the blender can process everything. If the smoothe isn’t thick enough, add a little more ice. It usually gives me two servings, so I feel like I am very indulged, but it really is very natural and healthy even with two servings!

I think it is a great treat that takes the edge of sugar cravings, but still makes me feel like I had something really delicious to treat myself too! Be sure and post your own tips in the comments or on the Over 50 chat forum!

This helps me, but if it doesn’t work for you, try a free sample of the 2 Day Diet where you can lose 6 to 12 pounds in 2 days!

  2. Hi! Is there any way to cut this down to 1 serving? When you start with a whole cup of skim milk, that pretty much makes everything you add over 1 serving. If you can see what I mean?

  4. I guess you could cut it in half, but here are the problems. First, my blender seems to need at least a cup of liquid to work well when crushing the ice and blending the fruit. Second, I like the variety of two types of fruit, and so that adds to the serving. If you can solve those problems, let us know.

And I haven’t really come up with a good way to store the extra serving, but really….it isn’t over indulgence even with two glasses, and it keeps me away from much worse snacks. It provides a little more than a serving of dairy (remember the yogurt), 2 servings of fruit, but really that’s about it! Most of us do not get enough fruit and veggies in every day anyway.

Sometimes I can share it with another person in my household, but if that doesn’t work, I just have it all!
