Got something to say? Visit our Over 50 Chat Forum today! You have no idea how sad I am. I guess it’s me, being a middle aged woman myself, and one who prides herself on having a share of chutzpah. Yes. I backed Senator Hillary Clinton to the wall in her bid for the democratic nomination. I still believe that she is the candidate who is realistic and experienced, and that she backed up her campaign platform with substance. I really don’t have anything against Obama, but I do think he lacks realism, experience, and substance. Even Edwards, cannot bring himself to endorse Obama. It was a matter of substance, and a health care policy that did not go far enough.
And whatever you think of Rev. Wright (I actually sort of thought he was amusing), he had a point. Obama is a politician. .. an actor…. and if we cannot fault him for certain mistakes he did not make, then we can put that down to a lack of history…..
But see, I was sad before. I was 14 years old when Sen. George McGovern lost his bid for the white house. I worked as a Young Democrat then, and I made phone calls for him, and walked around canvassing people, and when I saw him, it was like a knight in shining armour.
So I have had my share of political disapointments. Think Al Gore. But since McGovern was beaten, even losing South Dakota, the home state we both share, I did not think my heart could ache over it. It may be time for Hillary to seek her destiny elsewhere, and I wish it wasn’t so, but I have learned that the best person does not always win. Maybe McGovern learned that too, and that is how is can stand on a podium and urge her to quit.
Anyway, she’s only 60, and in 4 or even 8 more years, would not be the oldest person to seek the big white house!
