How to Help Haiti Earthquake Survivors
I found a website with a list of several aid agencies with Haiti Relief Funds. These are well known charities, and you can designation your donation to a particular relief effort. So make sure you designate your contribution to “Haiti Earthquake” if that’s where you want it to go.
Why Give Relief to Haiti Earthquake Survivors
Haiti is already the poorest country in the hemisphere, and they have endured their share of disasters. Some of these have been natural disasters like hurricanes, but many have been political upheavals. And yet this country has also spread a rich culture all over this part of the world, and many immigrants have contributed to the US.
It is tough to imagine the scope of this disaster. Estimates of the current death toll range from a few thousand to a hundred thousand to five hundred thousand. This is hard to imagine, and is certainly worse than anyrecent disasters that we thought were horrible.
Having been through a hurricane while living in a middle class area of an affluent city (Near Houston), I saw a lot of damage. But after a couple of weeks of inconvenience, life went back to normal. But we were still shocked by the damage, but once the power came back on, we pretty much went back to our regular routines.

This earthquake in Haiti has done so much more terrible damage, and it did it to an area that is already poor. My neighbors still had their earthquake supplies like canned food, flashlights, and plenty of water. The streets were clear so local relief agencies were attending to the people who needed it most within a couple of days. And their were still some serious issues.
Right now, millions of people cannot live in their homes. The only food or water they may have is what they can scavenge. While different countries are moving in to help, there are still people without anything. They do not have a change of clothes, food, water, or medicine. They do not have a bed to sleep in. If this continues, more people will die from hunger, food, or disease.
Give Now to Haiti Relief – Get UP! Stand UP!
Even small donations add up. If a million of us give $5, $15, or $50 it will still be a huge gift. People are thirsty right now in Haiti, and $1 would buy a bottle of clean water. The good news here is that I tried to get to the Clinton Foundation Haiti Relief page yesterday and it was so busy I couldn’t get in. Hopefully that means a lot of people responded to President Clinton’s TV interview on CNN when he asked for donations.
So.. Get UP! Stand Up! And let’s help our neighbors too.
