Oldies But Goodies On Over50Web
No, we aren’t changing Over50Web.net into a zombie site, and we aren’t thinking of Bob Dylan’s one eyed undertaker (though that song played on the satellite radio this morning). This website is about 5 years old now. That seems like the age of a toddler, but in Internet time, 5 years is probably middle aged or older!
It is January, and this seemed like a good time to review some older articles that had fallen out of view. We do list popular posts in the sidebar, but that little gadget lists posts that are currently popular by traffic. They are not always the posts that had the most traffic ever, and they certainly are not the posts that always generated the most feedback or contention.
Social Discussion
Note that some of the discussion happens in our comments, but more and more happens on our Facebook page. We also have a Twitter page, but like a lot of older folks, do not quite have the hang of it!
Editor’s Picks
These are the editor’s picks of some good older articles, by a variety of authors. Of course, you can still review the popular articles listed on the right side of this page. In the interest of brevity, we limited our selection to half a dozen. If this format proves popular, we may produce more digests in different categories.
Editor’s Picks For Past Content
Calendar Girls - A group of Mass. seniors modeled for a racy calendar to raise money for their hometown. One of the highlights is Millie Smith, aged 93 at the time, who is also known as Motorcycle Mama.
Career Change - Midlife career changes continues to be a daily favorite. It usually shows up in the popular posts list. However, because of the response this article generated, and the visitor popularity, I felt I needed to include it. We have also posted a lot of related articles, and you can find some of them tagged on that page – or you can search for them.
Over 50 Women And Marriage - This article elicited a lot of feedback, both on the website, and on our associated Facebook page. Actually, I am pretty sure this article generated the most buzz on our Facebook discussion. A lot of people had some pretty strong feeling about their need to remarry in middle age.
What Do Boomers Worry About? This poll, article, and the comments were both unsurprising and surprising. We never claimed that the poll is scientific. Because of our own privacy rules, we have no way to exactly understand the demographics of our visitors – or the people who felt motivated to respond. One overwhelming worry was having enough income for a comfortable retirement.
Early Retirement Problems - The Early Retirement Scrooge illustrated some problems with retiring early, even though having a fairly comfortable income may be assured. We do understand that many of our visitors face early retirement – some through choice, and some through unemployment. This article considers some of the issues with quitting work early.
Over 50 Videos - This is not an article, but a category. We have featured some videos that we believe the over 50 set will find interesting. Our readers seem to like these treats, and they also seem to like to pass them around. Revisit everything from the Beatles to We Are The World, and of course, one of our favorites – Warren Zevon!
Note – the quote from our header – Don’t Let Us Get Sick. Don’t Let Us Get Old. Dont Let Us Get Stupid. All right? – comes from a Warren Zevon song. It should be easy enough for you to find the lyrics on a search engine, and then you can always replay it on Youtube to see if you agree.
What Did You Like?
Please feel free to join the discussion to tell us which articles you enjoyed over the past few years. That could form the basis for a reader’s picks articles.

I think it is a good idea to highlight some of the past over50web articles. I had forgotten about the calendar girls post, but that is a goodie!
You mentioned = not getting the “hang” of Twitter. Maybe it is time for some articles that help guide us older folks in the best use of social websites like Twitter, Facebook, Digg, etc. Anybody?
You forgot the article about first date coversation starters, plus a lot more in that category.
