Is Health Reform Still Alove and Kicking?

I think that most of us who pulled with YES switch on Obama, or at least the Democratic party, were attracted by promises of finally getting a health reform bill passed. When Hillary Clinton said it might not be so easy, we did listen. And now she is probably having a great time saying, I told you so! But the health reform bill still seems to be slogging through Congress, though not exactly the way we thought it would be!

Some Americans Health Care Reform Could Help

Do you think you know who health reform will help? You may be overlooking some groups if you think it will only help a bunch of bums who plot for a socialistic takeover. Sorry, that was a bit harsh, but I guess I caught too much Fox News yesterday.

Women Do you know that, while life insurance premiums are usually lower, health insurance premiums will be higher for a man than a woman – other factors being equal. While women tend to live longer, we also need (or at least seek) more medical care. Food for thought, there…..

People with Health Conditions Do you realize that private insurers can decline applicants for coverage based on some fairly minor health conditions. Dou you know that, in some US states, it is even legal for insurers to decline former victims of domestic violence? This has got to stop!

Small Business Unemployed, self-employed, or contract workers are not the only people who have issues with insurance premiums. Many small businesses are struggling with rising premiums because their group is too small to really spread the risk well. And while individual insurance plans usually cannot raise rates because an insured person got sick, a small group policy can do it!

Picture a typical situation. A small machine shop has 8 employees. One worker has a heart attack and has a small group plan cover most of his expenses. A few months later gets a notice that the group premium is going to double in 30 days. Does this happen? It happens all the time!

People over 50 People between 50 and 64 are pretty tough to cover in the US if they have to seek an invidual policy! Middle aged people are bound to have more health conditions than they did 10 or 20 years ago, and high blood pressure, etc. can get a person rated up or declined today!

These are just some of the groups who are having a tough time with the current system. We’d be pleased to see your comments on the issue of Obama’s health reform efforts. Just register and post!
