A lot of us are not just looking for a job any more. We have been there and done that!

Should You Start A Non Profit To Suppor The Arts Or A Charity?
Besides, it is no big secret that the over 50 job market is very tight these days. To respond to job dissatisfaction or job loss, many older workers have thought about starting their own businesses. But not that many have considered running a non profit business instead of a for profit business.
What Is A Nonprofit (Not For Profit) Business?
A not for profit business (NPO) does not generate surplus money to owners or stockholders like a regular business does. Instead, it uses its money to meet some goal or need. Examples of NPOs are charities, trade unions, trade associations, and public arts organizations.
Who Starts An NPO?
Frankly, the people who decide to found a non profit business have to possess the same entrepreneurial qualities as do people who start for profit businesses. It will probably not just be a job, but instead it will be a lifestyle!
Many people decide to start an organization because they have been motivated to help out with some community issue, national charity, or social cause. You have probably seen plenty of examples of this. Some foundations started to help people with specific problems because the founder knew somebody with this problem. It affected them deeply, and they felt like they had a mission to help out.
Frankly, others are started as the way to pay the management a salary. NPOs cannot make a profit, but they can pay their workers. This means that the founding members, or the board, may pay themselves a set salary. Sometimes, these people are paid very well.
You may remember, in fact, a lot of controversy surrounding one group that promised to help underprivileged children overseas. They advertised on TV quite a lot in past years and got millions of dollars in donations from well meaning people. Then it came out that 80% of the funds they raised were use to pay salaries, and only a fraction of the money actually went to help children. Hopefully, you do not intend to start a nonprofit like that!
