Where to (Re)Start?

Everybody experiences a break-up in their lifetime. For a lucky few those disappointments are lost to the fog of high school, but for the majority of adults failed relationships are a growing reality. As a culture we’ve become more accepting of failed marriages – that sometimes who was right for us at 20, might not be right for us at 50. What we’ve only started to understand is how to re-start our dating life.

There are several dating sites for men and women interested in finding love, a fling or something in-between. For the busy bee (and who isn’t nowadays?) these sites are perfect for weeding out the non-contenders, the ones we wouldn’t give a second glance at a dinner party. In addition to removing this class, dating sites also have the power to go a step further and lets us become more self-aware of the type of partner we’d enjoy. Sites like eHarmony.com and Chemistry.com have scientific and well-designed questionnaires to best pair visitors with compatible matches. But what happens if you don’t want to spend time on the Internet looking for dates?

Use the Internet!

Not for dating sites, but for activities in your city/town. Mom and dad likely met in high school or a church or a summer camp – traditional locations where they were able to spend plenty of time together in a social circle with similar interests. By finding a dance studio, art class, movie group or book club we can often times insert ourselves into new social circles and meet individuals with attractive personalities and attractive friendships. There aren’t any secrets to these types of groups, like dating some won’t appeal to you, while other swill be extra appealing. Every town is different, but Yelp.com is a good place to start, along with you local “alternative” newspapers. Google is also pretty nifty at finding what you want, when you want!

Whether you decided to use the Internet to find a direct connection or just use it to find a place to enjoy your hobby, it’s the most powerful tool of connectivity available to someone hoping to fill their time with enjoyable experiences.
