What is The RV Lifestyle?

A fulltime RVer lives in their Recreational Vehicle almost all of the time. Some of these people do keep a house, but many do not. They tend to be retired people who have decided to trade in their homes for a well appointed RV. They may have a home base RV park, or they may just travel from park to park. For those who are content to wander, a grown child or PO box may collect their mail. I imagine the business of leading forwarding addresses must be attended to.

The RV Lifestyle is not new. When I was a young child, in the early 1960′s, our neighbors were summer people. They spent the summers in our pleasant midwestern town, but each winter they would pack off for southeast Texas where they lived in something we used to call a trailer house. At the time, I thought they were impossibly old, but I am pretty certain that they were not so much older than I am now. He had been a real train engineer, of the sort who orginally studied steam engines. She was a wonderful lady who used to baby sit me sometimes when my mom had to help in our family business. She always gave me a shoebox full of wonderful treasures to play with when I stayed at her house, but these were things I was not allowed to keep. They were just a variety of figures, stones, or other keepsakes that the wife had collected on the road.

The Fulltime RV Lifestyle Today

These days, it is probably even easier to be on the road fulltime. The internet and cell phones mean that people can stay connected wherever they go. Your phone number and email address will not change as you migrate accross the country.  Even if you seldom visit your home base, it should be very easy to make sure that your friends, family, and business contacts can reach you.

Working On The Road As An RVer

We used to think that only retiremd or financially independent people could enjoy the RV lifestyle. These days, may of these modern gypsies actually incorporate a  business into their travels.  Some pick up seasonal jobs to supplement their incomes. Others use their RV lifestyle to work full time sales or online jobs. They may follow the seasons of amusement parks or trade shows. Others might be able to work anywhere they are as long as they can get online. Others may be buyers who travel to where sellers are so they can flip products to buyers all over the country. Some jobs and businesses are well suited to lifestyle RV people!

Cost Considerations For The RV Lifestyle

Consider this. We usually think of traditional homes as appreciating assets. But an RV may only depreciate, and sometimes you will need to make repairs and pay for upkeep. You will also need money for the basics like groceries, RV park rent, and utilities. You will also need RV insurance, but you would need homeowners insurance to live in a house anyway. But in general, this may actually be less than the upkeep and payments you make to live in a fixed home.
