I just watched the new History Channel Special – The Beatles on Record - and I really did enjoy it. If you have’t caught it yet, they do tend to repeat these specials, so I’m sure you can catch it again.

I started to wonder, and not for the first time, what the lyrics of some of their songs meant. After a bit of searching, I realized I wasn’t the only one. The song, Come Together, has generated quite a bit of debate.

Silly or Serious?

You can see one active debate at Beatles Song Meanings: Come Together. There are a couple of top theories here. The highest rated one discussed how the lyrics were code to describe each member of the band: John, George, Paul, and Ringo (In case you forgot..hah!). Another sensible theory is that the lyrics are pure silliness, just made up to go with the music. This theory was actually suggested by John, but who knows? Another theory, along that line, was that John would jot down lyrics when he thought of them. He took lyrics that did not fit into any  other song, and then just wrote Come Together!

So What Does Come Together Mean?

Anyway, no matter what is true, and I guess we will never really know, it is a lot of fun to take a trip on a Wayback Machine and remember The Beatles.
