Well, you have heard the line, If we couldn’t laugh, we would all go insane!” This is true of being over 50, and it is also true of insurance. We certainly got our ribs tickled when we read Funny Insurance Stories and Claims! We were even more amazed when we found out that a British insurer actually paid out on an alien abduction claim!

And we figure that many of our readers will understand the need for crooner Tom Jones to have his chest hair insured! Of course, Ugly Betty insured her smile too.

The article was not just pointless yuks though. It was an attempt to spark interest in a somewhat dry topic. That is business specialty insurance. It seemed like every time I got online, I would see ads that said I could get a flat stomach, lose weight, etc. if I would only obey one simple rule. The blogs, like Jen’s Weight Loss, Karen’s Weight Loss, etc. would show before and after pictures of a woman who lost her sagging belly and now looked really hot!  I suspect that most of these before and after photos were purchased from stock photo services, and the owner of the blog was not the person in the picture!

Obviously this did not work out well for thousands of consumers who took advantage of the not-so-free offer and ended up with rebill charges on their credit cards that were quite hard to cancel.

Sometimes the so-called blogs would also proclaim that famous personalities like Oprah, Dr. Oz, and Rachel Ray endorsed the product. This did not work out well either as some of these celebs are busy with their lawsuits against offending advertisers.

Anyway, at best, a lot of these so-called weight loss blogs were fairly deceptive. At worst, they could be called scams.

A car insurance website decided to have some fun with this whole concept. Believe me, I know that it does get hard to come up with new ideas to write about a dry subject like insurance sometimes. The page is obviously a joke, but the car insurance quote form is real.

Well, we cannot do much about our birthdate, but laughter is good for us anyway. So it is time to recycle some boomer jokes! These may not make you laugh out loud, but hopefully you will smile. Actually, for many of us, middle age is a great tme of life. So don’t let these get you down. They are just jokes!

When You’re Over 50…

You have a party and your neighbors do not complain because they don’t even know it.
You don’t worry about secrets because your friends don’t remember them either.

The only way to relieve the frustration of being fifty-something is to constantly seek new ways of irritating the young. Fortunately in old age, you develop the ability to do this naturally in every single thing you do or say. (If you still have teen or young adult kids, you’ll get this one.)

…work is a lot less fun, and fun is a lot of work!
…your doctor,and not the police, tell you to slow down.
…caution is the only thing you want to exercise regularly.
…sometimes you don’t care where you spouse goes as long as you don’t have to go along.

Positive Thoughts About Being 50 Plus Today!

I cannot end this with grim humor. I just cannot. Let’s look forward to a great future.

• The kids are alright. We have raised a generation of kids who are clear eyed, smart, and beautiful. They have less ingrained prejuduces and are likley to be serious about society. Boomers marched for civil rights, while the kids take those things as a given. We have done some things alright, and as every generation hopes to do, have raised kids that in some ways, are better than we are.
• We ushered in the information age. The internet has made knowledge and business accessible to almost everybody. And what we struggled with, our kids learned in kindergarten.
• For better or worse, we did things out loud. We fought the previous generation’s repression. We got divorced, has intimate relationships, and went bankrupt out in the open. We allowed people to admit they were gay. We brought to light the problems that had always been with us like abuse, rape, and war. Once the rug had been removed, hopefully there is no putting it back! People cannot learn unless they can know.
• We can expect to live longer than any other generation. We can also expect to be healthy and productive at older ages. We redefine aging.
